Beautiful Ruegen - Germany's largest island

The island of Ruegen is the most popular holiday destination at the german Baltic coast. Two national parks and several nature preservation areas take care that the intact nature of Ruegen is preserved for future generations. The white chalk cliffs are an absolute highlight to see. In the 1930s the Nazis attempted to built the biggest holiday resort in the world here on the island. In Prora you can see the ruins of this construction. The nearby resort Binz is a gem of seaside resort architecture and a popular beach resort. Also don't miss the drive along parts of the national route of historic tree-lined avenues.

Beautiful Ruegen - Germany's largest island

Highlights of this tour are a visit to the National Park Jasmund with the spectacular white cliffs, the never completed Nazi-resort of Prora, the elegant seaside resort of Binz and a drive along some of Germany’s most beautiful natural avenues. Further along the coast you can see more of the typical fisherman's villages with their thatched roofs and enjoy beautiful views to the open sea. Although times are tough for commercial fishing, the port of Sassnitz still is a bustling place with old and new fishing vessels, fresh fish sold at the quays and the submarine HMS Otus as a museum. Discover this beauty, still unspoiled by mass tourism and pollution. On the way to and from Ruegen you could stop by the city of Stralsund - a UNESCO World Heritage site.
